Destiny Foundation of Central Florida, Inc. was founded in September 2001, by Pastor Scott George with a new and innovative food assistance program to financially assist the "working poor" in Central Florida. What is now the Greater Orlando Food Outreach began to offer a long-term food subsidy program directly to families in the community just days before the tragedy of September 11th.
Thousands of families have joined the Greater Orlando Food Outreach, a program that provides them with access to high quality foods for a small contribution per item. In 2006, as part of our Healthy Families Initiative, staple foods such as eggs, bread, produce, and other nutritional items became available at no cost to all members. This "hand up," as opposed to a "handout," restores dignity to families by actively involving them in their road to self-sufficiency.
The Greater Orlando Food Outreach is now the largest faith-based, hunger-relief organization in Central Florida, serving over 1,700 families each week and with more than 20 families joining the program each day!
In 2007, with a vision to provide families with the resources and tools they need to break the cycle of poverty, the Destiny Foundation of Central Florida, Inc. expanded its services once again with the addition of the
and Compassion Children's Clinic.
The Compassion Outreach Center is the largest social-service Access Center in the state of Florida, assisting more than 2,500 families since opening in March 2007. This community resource center provides families with access to and assistance with online applications for the Food Stamps Program, Medicaid, Temporary Cash Assistance, and Florida KidCare. Employment assistance services are available, as well as access to 2-1-1 Community Resources' database of programs and services, various life skills classes, and special outreach events
The Compassion Children's Clinic is a free children's medical clinic for uninsured and underinsured children in our community. The clinic is contracted through the Department of Health and operated by a team of volunteer doctors and nurses who see children for physicals and basic sick visits. Prescription assistance, follow-up care, and insurance application assistance is provided to each family who visits the clinic.
